Welcome to the new school year!

Whether you’re brand-new or returning, these resources will give you confidence and help you connect from Day One.

Get Ready for Your First Day

Start your school year strong with these video resources:

Set Up Your Learning Coach and Student Accounts

Let’s get you set up for school!

You’ll start by creating your Learning Coach account. You’ll then have the option to activate your student’s account right away.

It’s important your student uses their student account to attend class, submit assignments, and take quizzes and tests. Activity in the student account is what’s marked as attendance.

View the account setup guide.

Getting Started in the K12 School (OLS)

When you log into your K12 School (OLS) over the summer, you’ll enter the Welcome Site. That’s where you’ll find lots of information on what to expect this year at school.

As the school year gets closer, you’ll see a link appear at the top of your Welcome Site that will take you to the K12 School (OLS). That’s where the real learning begins!

When you go to the K12 School (OLS), you’ll land on the K12 Launch Pad. Once the school year is in session, this is where you’ll see an overview of your live class sessions, lessons, and assignments for the day. You can also access your courses from the K12 Launch Pad by clicking on the course tile to jump directly into the course materials.

Your courses likely won’t show up in your account until the first day of school, but you’ll still be able to explore the Welcome Site and the K12 Launch Pad to get a feel for the environment before your classes begin.

Check here for further information and updates.

Track Your Materials and Computer Shipments

See a list of learning materials you can expect and when they’ll show up at your door! You’ll want to keep these instructions handy each semester.

You can find the materials tracking guide on the Welcome Site, and it will also be available through your K12 School (OLS) Resources tab once school starts.

See more about how to track your course materials here.

How to Clear Your Cache and Cookies

If you’re having trouble logging in, clearing your cache and cookies will often solve the issue. Try that first if you have trouble logging in, especially if you’ve logged in with both your Learning Coach and student accounts on the same device. Let us walk you through some basic DIY computer maintenance that can help solve common issues and save you a call to tech support.

Understand Your Role as a Learning Coach

As a Learning Coach, you are your student’s daily guide. You help them show up, stay organized, and keep moving. But you won’t be going it alone. You’ll have a dedicated, state-certified teacher on your side who wants your student to thrive just as much as you do.

A few things to keep in mind as you get started:

  • You and your student’s teacher are a team. Teachers bring their expertise in curriculum and instruction, and you bring the day-to-day guidance and familiarity with your student. When those two things work together, students benefit from truly powerful support.
  • Always use the student account to attend class, submit assignments, and take quizzes and tests. Using the Learning Coach account will cause errors in marking attendance.
  • Build a daily routine around SAGE: Schedule, Assignments, Grades, Email. Checking these four things every day keeps you and your student ahead of the curve.

Is there a place where I can meet other Learning Coaches?

Yes! The Learning Coach Community is a private online space created just for parents and caregivers who are supporting students in online school as their Learning Coaches. Within the secure community, you can connect with other Learning Coaches, share tips, ask questions, and make friends. You’ll find both national and school-specific spaces to explore. Whether you’re looking for broad support or local connections, your Learning Coach Community is here for you.
